About us

The Watercolor Community of San Francisco is a gathering of artists from the Bay Area. Initially, we met at watercolor classes at City College of San Francisco, the Bernal Heights Public Library or the Botanical Watercolorists of Golden Gate Park. There are many overlaps, a perfect Venn diagram of folks that love the medium. I created this blog as a way to keep everyone informed on the latest classes, products, shows and exhibits that enrich our community.

Some of our ongoing activities include:

Tuesday morning at Creightons
We meet at this coffee shop in Diamond Heights to show our current work for critique, applause, suggestions, motivation. It may be from the weekly assigned experiment, or something we are working on independently. We do not paint at this location.
Drop in around 10 am on any Tuesday morning. Usually ends around 11:30.
Creighton's Bakery, 5214D Diamond Heights Blvd, 415-282-2366.

Bernal Heights Public Library
Every other Friday everyone brings their supplies to work on their own project. There is no teacher or leader or agenda. We use the time to paint in an inviting community room, and hang out with great people. We have a case at the library's entrance that usually displays our group's pieces.
Drop in from 1 to 5 pm every other Friday - Dates
Bernal Heights Public Library, 500 Cortland Avenue, 415-355-2810

Garden Room by the Arboretum
For a small yearly fee, we reserve a room in the County Fair Bldg at Lincoln and 9th Ave. We usually have the room 2 times a month, on the Fridays that we do not schedule the library. It is a lovely room, well lit, with big windows framing the small courtyard behind the building. Access to the Arboretum is just steps away. There are no planned lessons, just a lot of space and great company to work on your art. We have the room from 12 to 3 pm, although, if there is no event scheduled after us, we have stayed way past our time.
Drop in and check us out - Dates
(Membership fee is required for regular attendance)

Group shows
For those that are ready to mat, frame and hang their work for the public to enjoy, we have 1 or 2 shows every year. We have an ongoing annual show at Cafe Seventy8 in the Mission, and individuals show their work all over the bay area. You must be an active participant in the group to qualify.
