Summer Painters - July 29

- Today was the last meeting at Creighton's for the Summer Painters.  Next week we will meet at the Bernal Library Community Room at 10 am and share our summer's work.
There are several sources of coffee and treats within 2-3 blocks if you need it! Library located at 500 Cortland Ave.

- Shirley is working on starting a blog to consolidate the several watercolor groups that have gathered around the original Russelers Group as a more efficient way to disseminate information between all of us.

- Jo is still working on arranging a date to see the Calligraphy at the Main Library.

- We talked a little about warm and cool versions of the same color( as in ultramarine and cerulean blues) and mixing to make warm and cool greys.

- Pam had a couple of interesting items.  And I quote:
"Hi, The brand is Stillman & Birn. Mine is from their Beta Series, 180 lb, Natural White, Cold Press. They are sold at Flax and Riley Street, that I know of.
I just bought a spiral bound, 7" x 10" at $22.99. That is smaller that the hard bound one I had with yesterday".
- She also had a thick band of elastic and fabric to hold her pencils and pens that wraps around her notebook with Velcro.  She found it on Etsy and it was called a bandolier but she couldn't find it today.  You may just want to check.  It came in several sizes.

- Shirley told is about a new paper called Rendr (with the last r backwards) that has plastic between two sheets so nothing bleeds through.  Click on > RENDR

- Try cutting an old mat or cardoard, making 2 "L"  frames to check for cropping.  You can even use them while you are painting to check how things are going.

- Everyone got excited about the erasable gel pen called Frixion that Shirley has used to develop her painting.  They erase by friction that causes heat so you can use the eraser it comes with or heat: hairdryer, iron, embossing tool.  The heat makes it disappear so you can make all kinds of outlines and them make then disappear!  Just don't use a hairdryer to dry your painting before you are done or you will lose all your lines!

- Golden has an interesting virtual paint mixer where you can mix up to three colors and know the proportions so you can mix it yourself.  Don't know the source of the colors ( acrylics?) but it can give you a good idea.

Finally,  there is an experiment for next week, even though it is our last meeting AT THE BERNAL LIBRARY, Aug 05, 10am.
It is #30 - Use Mostly Hard-edged Shapes.

Hoping to see all of you at the last meeting with all the experiments you did this summer.  We will have tape and pushpins.  It will be fun!!!

Until then,
Joanie and Shirley
